After attending Central College, she taught country school for four years at Eureka School near Harvey, Pleasant Grove and Flint Ridge where her husband had attended as a child. While attending college in 1943, she met the love of her life, Jaybe Steenhoek, son of Simon and Winnie (Mol) Steenhoek, and was married on March 2, 1946. They shared the next 71 years together and were blessed with three daughters: Dixie Kay, Bonnie Jo and Jayni Sue. They lived near Pella their whole lives. Ada attended First Reformed Church as a child and young adult, she and Jaybe joined Third Reformed Church shortly after they were married and Ada was baptized there.
After their three children were all in school, Ada spend twenty-four years working in the dietary office at Pella Community Hospital. After retiring from there, she began working for Heritage Lace, cutting lace for them for nineteen years.
Her hands were always busy doing handiwork for her family and friends. She loved knitting, counted cross stitch, quilting at church resulting in many afghans, scarfs, snowmen, blankets, stitched pictures for her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who were the joy of her life.
