Kathy De Haan, Hospice Volunteer of the Year at Pella Regional
Kathy De Haan, volunteer at Hospice of Pella at Pella Regional Health Center, is the 2011 Hospice Volunteer of the Year for Hospice of Pella. She started volunteering with hospice about 3 years ago, and enjoys the time she spends there.
Kathy will be recognized at a luncheon on September 13 in Des Moines hosted by the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Iowa. She shared that she is honored and humbled by the recognition.
“We are so fortunate to have Kathy as part of our team,” said Beth Loux, volunteer coordinator for hospice. “Every week she serves at the Comfort House, baking cookies, visiting with patients and running errands. Kathy also tackles the unending job of cleaning equipment, and always with a smile. She is a blessing to our patients, their families and staff. We look forward to each day that she works alongside us.”
Kathy encourages people to take the volunteer training course and find out what it’s all about. “I enjoy volunteering at hospice. I like helping people and these are really nice people to work with,” said Kathy. “It truly makes me feel satisfaction and joy.”
