Boy Scout Recognition
On Sunday January 31, 2010 the Mid-Iowa Council, Hawk Eye District had the year’s achievements awards.
Pella Troop 373 and Cub Scout Pack 374 were recognized, Troop 373 for hosting the Fall Camporee at Whitebreast and for 6 Eagle Scouts from 2008-2009.
Fermin Falcon (second from left) received the Commissioner of the Year award. Tim Williams (second from right) was nominated for and received the District Award of Merit for distinguished service to youth.
Laura Williams (right) and Sue Moore (left) received G.L.U.E awards for helping to keep things organized and helping where needed.
The organization of Boy Scouts of America turns 100 years old on Feb. 8. Most people know that the Scouts were founded by Lord Robert Baden-Powell in England, but the Scouts in America were begun shortly thereafter by William D. Boyce, a Chicago publisher, on Feb. 8, 1910, following a business meeting in London and an unexpected meeting with Baden-Powell.
