Senator Harkin Encourages Students to Apply for Fall Internships

U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that Iowa college students can now apply for fall internships in his Washington, DC and Iowa offices. An internship in Harkin’s office is an excellent opportunity for a valuable and unique education about the federal legislative process. Interns assist the Senator’s staff in the areas of legislation, press, and communications. Intern responsibilities include performing office duties, writing and researching current legislative issues, and acting as general project support to the Senator’s staff. The internship program is specifically designed for college undergraduates.

“Years ago I began my political career as an intern for Iowa Representative Neal Smith in the House of Representatives. The experience provided an invaluable firsthand education into how government operates,” Harkin said. “I’m looking for bright, young men and women who share this interest in public service to apply for internships in my office.”

The deadline for fall internship applications is July 25, 2008. Students who are interested in becoming an intern in Senator Harkin’s office can apply via the web at http://harkin.senate.gov/service/intern.cfm. Questions can be directed to Senator Harkin’s Washington, DC office at (202) 224-3254.
