American Association of University Women, Pella Branch
The Pella Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) was formed in 1950. It is one of 1300 branches nationally with over 100,000 members.
AAUW’s mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. Since its founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day-educational, social, economic, and political.
In Pella, AAUW meets monthly in members’ homes to learn about significant issues regarding women and girls around the world. One month the topic may be about education in Tanzania. Another month’s topic may be how women work as engineers at Pella Corporation. Other programs may examine business women’s opportunities, college educators’ research, how girls learn in public schools, or books that are meaningful for an educated person.
“Trick or Treat” for UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) is sponsored each fall by the Pella Branch to improve the lives of children in developing countries.
