Union Street Players

History
Union Street Players (USP), Pella's community theater, was incorporated as a non-profit organization in January, 1989. Since that time, USP has been dedicated to providing quality theatrical entertainment for Pella and our surrounding communities, and is proud to have been awarded the designation "Best Performing Group in Marion County" for the years 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006.

Each year USP brings three to four productions on our home stage, the Joan Kuyper Farver Auditorium in the Pella Community Center. Each season includes:
• a winter production (in late February),
• a Tulip Time production (every other Tulip Time; the first weekend in May)
• a summer production (late July/early August)
• a Christmas production (early December).

Recent winter productions include The Nerd (2000), Steel Magnolias (2001), Love, Sex and the IRS (2002), Nunsense (2003), Much Ado about Nothing (2004), Barefoot in the Park (2005), and Morning's At Seven (2007).

Tulip Time productions such as The Dominie's Wife (2003 and 2006) have focused on Pella history, including winning entries from our Tulip Time playwriting contest - Of Wooden Shoes and Windmills (2005), and Tulip House (2007).

The summer production is usually a larger show. In recent years, these have been musicals: The Music Man (1997), Fiddler on the Roof (1998), The Sound of Music (1999), Hello, Dolly! (2000). Guys and Dolls (2001), Oklahoma! (2002), The King and I (2003), South Pacific (2004), and The Fantasticks (2005), though in summer 2006 we departed from recent tradition to produce the American stage classic Our Town.

Recent Christmas productions have included Miracle on 34th Street (2000), The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (2001), It's A Wonderful Life (2002), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2003), A Christmas Carol (2004), Yes, Virginia, There Really is a Santa Claus (2005), and Christmas Post (2006).
