MOMS - STRENGTH THROUGH RECOVERY
LOCAL SUPPORT GROUP AVAILABLE
Crisis Intervention Services is a non-profit organization that offers free, confidential aid to residents of Marion, Mahaska, Lucas, and Keokuk counties. Our mission is to provide support, resources, and hope for a better future to persons affected by domestic abuse, sexual assault, and other crises.
One of the many services we offer is the Moms Off Meth group, which provides support for women with substance abuse addictions and other problems arising from those addictions. Many women in the groups have lost or are in danger of losing custody of their children because of their addictions or related problems.
Our goal is to bridge the gap between substance abuse issues and domestic violence and sexual assault, which often plays a part in addiction. In this group, women are able to share feelings of guilt, shame, anger, and fear as well as have discussions with other women who are or have been in similar situations. Women also receive referrals to other helping agencies as needed. The groups are free of charge and are self-governed by the women with guidance from trained facilitators.
Meetings are held in Chariton on Monday nights from 6:30-8:00 p.m.; in Knoxville and Oskaloosa on Tuesday nights from 7:00-8:30 p.m.; and in Pella and Sigourney on Wednesday nights from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
If you or someone you know is interested in attending, please call our crisis line at 1-800-270-1620 for information on meeting locations, which have been provided free of charge by generous members of the communities we serve.
