Pella's Solid Waste Program
  1. SOLID WASTE COLLECTION will be ONCE PER WEEK. RECYCLABLES will also be collected ONCE A WEEK, on the SAME DAY.
  2. All household waste will be required to be placed inside special garbage totes. They come in 3 sizes: 35, 65, and 95 gallon.
  3. Monthly charge per tote: 35 = $11.48; 65 = $13.88; 95 = $16.74. This fee includes the City's sanitation services charge.
  4. A standard garbage can is about 35 gallons. If your household fills about two cans per week, you should consider selecting the 65 gallon tote. If you are a 3-can household, you will probably want the 95 gallon container. Don't worry about having to lift the tote - it has wheels.
  5. Changes in tote size are permitted at a cost of $50.00.
  6. The totes are the property of the City of Pella. If yours is lost, stolen, or damaged, you will be responsible for service fees and for making arrangements to receive a replacement.
  7. The totes will be blue with the City logo stamped on them in white.
  8. NO EXTRA BAGS OR CONTAINERS WILL BE COLLECTED. All garbage must fit into the designated tote, and the lid must be able to close. The new automated collection trucks that will be used cannot pick up nonstandard containers. Special arrangements must be made with a licensed garbage hauler for any large item pickups.
  9. Two special cleanup weeks will be designated each year, one in the spring, one in the fall.

  • chipboard (cereal boxes)
  • corrugated cardboard
