The Central College wrestling team rose to the No. 20 spot in the newest edition of the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll.
Individually, C.J. Pestano (junior, Torrance, Calif.) and Ryan Vandall (senior, Phoenix, Ariz., Moon Valley HS) are ranked in the top-10 at their respective weight classes.
At 125 pounds, Pestano (23-3) moved up to the No. 3 spot, trailing only defending national champion Lucas Malmberg (Messiah College [Pa.]) and Gueseppe Rea (Wilkes University [Pa.]). Malmberg defeated Pestano in last year’s national title bout.
Central’s top-rated wrestler as the No. 2 at 165 pounds, Vandall (25-2) also trails a defending national champion in the rankings as Logan Hermsen of Wis.-Stevens Points sits atop the top-10.
Central wraps up the dual season on Thursday night at Simpson.
